Accommodation near Abruzzo National Park

Abruzzo (pronounced a’bruttso) is a region of Italy that is situated in the center of the Italian peninsula facing the Adriatic. It follows 150 km of beaches and rocks and is one of the least populated regions of Italy.Abruzzo National Park

Bordering the west is the Apennines and is one of the most mountainous regions of Italy. The highest summit is Corno Grande at 2,914 km (9,569 ft). Abruzzo National Park, accounts for one third of the region. A 150,000-acre protected area crossed by only one paved road (although there are countless unpaved roads for cyclists), it receives two million visitors a year.

The area is well linked to the south, west and north of Italy and has rare example of flora and fauna with chamois, wolves, bears and golden eagles.

The beaches in the area are some of the best in Italy, amongst them Vasto on the south coast, a great place for swimming and building sandcastles or just relaxing. In addition to the amazing beaches the area is also home to 21 ski areas and has one of the few places in the world where you can see the sea from the top of the ski area.

The area also has a lot to offer in the way of shopping in the towns of Lanciano and Pescara with all the major stores you would expect in towns full of history and beautiful buildings.

Abruzzo holds some of Italy’s best-preserved medieval and Renaissance hill towns. The abrupt decline of Abruzzo’s agricultural economy in the early to mid-20th century saved some of the region’s most beautiful hill towns from the onslaught of modern development. Many lie entirely within regional and national parks so their preservation is all but guaranteed.
